When a AV program says 'virus', it usually found an attachment that
contains an executable program for the M$ world. But it could just be
something innocent like a digital signature that is used in this ML.
There are programs that can cut the attachments off emails before it is
read by an M$ users. But somethings it can ID html email or digital
signatures as a virus and this may not be desired. You have to train your
software to do what YOU want it to do.
