     '42checky' turned out to be a symlink to a possibly non-existing file.
    I deleted all three and ran

    'apt-get -f -u dist-upgrade --fix-missing'

    following which a slew of packages installed, including Mozilla and
    Firebird.

    I am left only with problems in configuring Gnome, and with printing.
