No 'modprobe.d" ?

Wrote ALSA configuration to /etc/alsa/modutils/0.9
ln: creating symbolic link to '/etc/modprobe.d/alsa' to
'/etc/alsa/modutils/0.9': No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing alsa-base (--configure)

On inspection, 'modprobe' does not exist.
How do I fix this ?
