    IDE SCSI Emulation _can_ be compiled as a module. lsmod on my system
    says:

    [...]
    sr_mod 12088 0 (autoclean)
    cdrom 29024 0 (autoclean) [sr_mod]
    [...]
    ide-scsi 9120 0
    scsi_mod 54748 2 [sr_mod ide-scsi]
    [...]

    And it does work for me.
