Installationsproblem Deb 3

Hi,
hab mich nach langer Zeit von meinem bisher gewohnten Suse Linux (ja würg,
ich weiss)
getrennt und bin letztendlich zu Debian gewechselt.
Habe aber mit der Installation eine kleine technische Schwierigkeit.
Bei meinem Suse System (auch 2.4er Kernel) liess sich das Problem recht
einfach beheben
Promise Controller Unterstützung in den Kernel kompiliert, die
Platteneinträge in der lilo.conf hinzugefügt
und das wars mehr oder weniger.
War unter Suse auch nicht das grosse Problem, da ich das System von der
Installationspartition mit dem Retungssystem booten konnte.
Bei Deb3 erhalte ich leider ne Kernel Panik sobald ich das System von dort
booten möchte (Min Install)

unter Suse liess sich das System mit folgender Konfig (ext2) booten:
Platten sind jetzt als ext3 eingerichtet.

eine Entsprechende anpassung der bei der Installation eingerichteten
lilo.conf
fruchtete leider nicht
ohne die disk/bios Einträge überflutet mich lilo mit einer unaufhörlichen
Flut von Zeichen:
LI01 01 01 01 .....
mit den Anpassungen (bios/disk Einträge und Eintrag für XP erhalte ich
LI80 80 80 80 80 80
Jemand ne Idee ?
