Lock Problem - Aptitude Update

I have a problem which was caused by an interrupted "aptitude
update". There are "stranded" locks which are keeping anything from
being done with aptitude/apt/dpkg. Can I just delete the three
"stranded" lock files, or is there a better way to handle the
problem? Thanks!
