/dev/dvd problem and question

Upgrading to 2.6.6 seems to have disconnected my DVD. xine says it
cannot decode DVD, and mplayer gives the following error:

brwxrwxrwx 1 root disk 22, 0 Jun 13 2001 /dev/hdc

This is up to date Sid, and it used to work. Any suggestions or some
other information y'all need?
