    I believe that firefox changed the places it kept the bookmarks several
    times in the last three or four updates.
    Try to find your old bookmarks/profile in these places:
            ~/.phoenix
            ~/.firebird
            ~/.firefox
            ~/.mozilla/firefox
            ~/.mozilla-firefox
