I've tried to login to Gnome, but had a kind of similar problem. After
the splash screen appears, everything else seems to die. So it seems to
be more an X-server problem. I tried applying the advice given in Stefan
O'Rear's message 20040929235240.GA13450@cox.net, but it did not help.
What else should I check?
