    There is no single package to upgrade the distro (this is not unique
    to Debian, I've yet to see any distro that has one package that
    magically updates the distro).

    Change woody to sarge in your /etc/apt/sources.list
    apt-get update
    apt-get dist-upgrade

    Get a *real* modem. Real modems don't need drivers. I strongly
    suggest a modem that connects to your computer's RS232 port
    externally, they Just Work(tm). Aunt Tillie could even install an
    external modem in Linux without help...
