cdrecord idev=ATA -scanbus
This gives you the values for DMA enabled. Your method gives without DMA
That said, I still can't write a CD even as root. My device hangs on after
initialisation. I think there is a bug in 2.6.7/8 which I "think" will be
fixed in 2.6.9
