My banks allow me to download statements in a format almost exactly
like XML. I run them through a perl script to turn them into proper
XML and then go crazy.
In addition to archiving them, and using XSLT to formatted reports,
I transform them into a form my little Access knockoff
tupim (http://sf.net/projects/pim-tb) can display.
