Not a direct answer to your question but...
You can modify your /etc/apt/sources.list file to include the old
stable archives, and then gifsiscle would be available to you.
As root, use your favourite editor to edit the file,
Duplicate the testing/sarge lines
replace testing/sarge in one of each duplicate with stable/woody
OK?
