Make a list of the hardware in your machine.
Download and burn a Mandrake ISO, and a Knoppix ISO.
use the lspci command
Keep a windows PC up with google. Use Google a lot.
Download a Sarge RC2 netinst ISO.
Take what you've learned and do it in Sarge.
Nothing will work out of the box.
It'll take you a month to figure how to make everything
work. But then you won't be ignorant anymore :-)
If you use an "easy" distro where "it just works"
you'll remain ignorant forever.
