    I have experienced the same problem. I have the latest Sarge packages
    update, and I am running Synaptic 0.53.4-6. The link above points to
    Synaptic 0.53.4-7, not yet in Sarge. I installed
    synaptic_0.53.4-7_i386.deb and the buttons were there again.
