    And just think of the super-security you're getting. Encryption over
    an encrypted forwarded link! What could be better?

    Seriously tho, if ssh is taking too much CPU you might consider doing
    some benchmarks and perhaps switching to lower grade encryption or
    simple telnet for the port-forwarded connection. But only if
    warranted- modern cpus have typically have plenty of spare cycles.

    Would be nice for you to post results if you do run this test.
