Hi Kent,
yup. I have seen many discussions about a 'newbie' list, but, at least
from my view, the 'user' list is the place for all users to go--newbie
or otherwise. It has a mix of 'the same ole question about using
apt-get' to 'how do I set a firewall' to 'whats the best graphics card'
to more exotic things. Each answer to any question is answered by people
of various levels and is sure to lead to both good answers and sometimes
enjoyable OT posts. The latter for me is the 'debian user community'
stuff that I enjoy. We also get the odd response by debian developers
which is good as it shows that they try to skim the list to add their 2
cents when they have a free microsecond. As to the temperment of
responces, it varies by person, by day, by caffine level x-). People are
people. Some non-newbies get occasionally huffy after reading the 1000th
'how can I read a M$ word doc' and wisk off a RTFM response or the ever
popular like to ESR's smart faq page. As folks have said on the
debian-devel list, people are expected to have a thick skin to this
stuff. And I guess newbies are not properly acclimated to the process of
find help which leads to some more justgoogleit!
