    Well it' s in /proc/bus/usb/devices

    output:

    T: Bus=02 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=01 Cnt=01 Dev#= 2 Spd=12 MxCh= 0
    D: Ver= 1.10 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1
    P: Vendor=0a48 ProdID=3260 Rev= 1.00
    S: Manufacturer=Hewlett-Packard
    S: Product=USB Digital Drive
    C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr= 50mA
    I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=08(stor.) Sub=06 Prot=50 Driver=usb-storage
    E: Ad=01(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms
    E: Ad=82(I) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms

Another thing to note is usb-storage under scsi

    cat /proc/scsi/usb-storage/2
       Host scsi2: usb-storage
           Vendor: Hewlett-Packard
          Product: USB Digital Drive
    Serial Number: None
         Protocol: Transparent SCSI
        Transport: Bulk
           Quirks:

BTW, I finally got kernel 2.8.10 running with udev. usb memstick still
    not working.

interesting files /proc/scsi/scsi contains the following:
    Attached devices:
    Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: ATA Model: ST3160023AS Rev: 3.18
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05
    Host: scsi2 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: HP Model: Digital Drive Rev: 1.00
      Type: Direct-Access

It states that the HP digital drive is under host: scsi2 what does that
mean? Now that i've got my sata drive working it's /dev/sda and the
memstick is being registered as /dev/sdb
