    Matt - later I posted under the video card heading
      SOLVED: ati rage XL - supported or not
    since I then thought it was the cause of my woes! As it turned out, all
    I did was add the higher resolution stuff to more color depths, put the
    refresh rates from the manual and then it seemed to work, here's the
    diffs:
