    Diff your config with the one from the Debian kernel. You are obviously missing
    some kernel code to boot. Probably drivers for your disk.

    Mount the initrd from the debian kernel and see what modules are listed in the
    loadmodules file and make sure you:

    1) Have them compiled into the kernel
    2) Use a ramdisk
