    Hallo,

I've had the same probleme on 3 machines when I updated my KDE-Env. from
    KDE3.2 to KDE3.3
under Debian Sarge. The solution I found in another forum worked for me on
    all 3 machines very well.

At the Logon-Screen use the mouse to go to"Menu" Button and choose
    "Text-Console".

Login as root and do the following:

          /etc/init.d/kdm stop
          apt-get remove --purge kdm
          apt-get install kdm
          /etc/init.d/kdm start

During this you will loose your kdm configuration but I think that the
    config is the problem.
After that the configuration dialog for kdm is quite different from the one
    before and I'm
not longer able to log in as root on the kdm screen.

So hope that will help you.

    Kind Regards
    Werner
