Hi Marc,
The k8 module won't work in any case on your Athlon XP which is a k7,
so no use trying that.
On my system the the powernow_k8 is attached to the freq_table module:
lsmod |grep powernow
powernow_k8 10632 0
freq_table 5320 1 powernow_k8
processor 23808 1 powernow_k8
Can you load that one?
If not you could still check your bios, to see if you can disable the
powernow feature, or upgrade to a newer kernel.
Try also to check /proc/cpuinfo when you put your system under load
and then look at the bogomips value. It is roughly 2 times the MHz
value on Athlon systems.
If it adapts to your load then your bios can control it and you do not
have install extra software.
