    Yes, I found that message before I posted to debian-user. I don't have
    artwiz-cursor installed. However, attempting to install it is
    illuminating:

    $ apt-get install artwiz-cursor
    Reading Package Lists... Done
    Building Dependency Tree... Done
    Suggested packages:
      xfonts-artwiz
    The following NEW packages will be installed:
      artwiz-cursor
    0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 3 not upgraded.

    I do (did) have xfonts-artwiz installed. So, that provides some explanation
    for the original error message in XFree86.0.log about being unable to find
    the 'cursor' font. Assuming that the problem with diversion of the font
    (whatever that means) remains.

    However, I find that I simply can't install artwiz-cursor, even if I purge
    xfonts-artwiz from my system (below). Any ideas on how to proceed?
