My first message because of my problem to this news group (I
know it is indeed a mailing list, but I read it via Usenet) has
had a much better subject line and was more detailed, but I
    haven't got an answer.

I can't give you the output of lspci and x-probonly now,
cause my newsreader (StarOffice 5.2) isn't yet installed on
Debian (see below), but Windows. I will give you my
XF86Config-4 file, which I can read with the EXT2/3-FS-Driver
for Windows XP (http://www.fs-driver.org/download.html), I have
edited it manually, to support the native resolution of my
    notebook):

As I am a legal owner of OS/2, I have the excellent Type 1 fonts
(original Adobe fonts with e. g. real Times New Roman, Helvetica
and Courier) Does anyone know, how to integrate these fonts (which
look better than the corresponding TTF-fonts from Windows) into
    Debian?

I append the original message I wrote to this list below (changes
done now in square brackets), the subject was:

New to Debian (Peter): Problem with resolution, sound,
    installing StarOffice 5.2

    Hi!
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
I have just installed Debian Sarge (stable) on my notebook
(Acer Aspire 1363 WLMi, with a Sempron Mobile, an
Nvidia 5200 go Graphic – no shared mem but a real graphic).

    It is running :-)

When installing, there was no resolution to choose, when
configuring X11, which matches the native resolution
of my notebook (1280x800), so I have configured a few
others (smaller), the highest 1024x768, 24 bit). How
    may I set the X11 resolution to 1280x800? (1)

[Already fixed now, but fonts are now nearly unreadable]

At first, the sound was functioning, in both KDE and
... [deleted, as sound works now again]
    problem. (2)

It would be better, to write my messages under Debian
of course, therefore I want to install StarOffice 5.2
which has a Newsreader (no more included in newer
    versions of OpenOffice/StarOffice) – sorry I don't
want to use another one, I have to learn a lot of
other things and the one of 5.2 works fine for me.
Has anyone installed StarOffice 5.2. May there
be any problems when doing it? (I'm afraid, it
    won't have a Debian package) (3)

[This would be the most important thing for me, cause
I do most things with StarOffice 5.2 on Windows/OS/2.
So if StarOffice 5.2 would be running on Debian, I could
use Debian for real work, not just for experimenting. Of
course I have a CD for Linux, but it is of course no
    deb-Package]

I'm not completely new to Debian, cause on another
PC I have installed Knoppix to hard disk, and even
have compiled and installed a Sinclair QL emulator in
it (QL is the computer Linus used, before he bought
the famous 386-PC). I. e. I know the most important
commands (ls, cp, ...) and have even a little
knowledge of shell scripting. And I have the new
book of Martin F. Krafft, "The Debian System".
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

Another problem: My Notebook has a touchpad. On windows
and even OS/2 I can touch it shortly to simulate a mouse
click (even dragging is possible). This doesn't work with
Debian, I have to use the mouse keys. Is there a package
to get a similar behavior on Linux?

    Peter
