Don't know about the 2.6.12 kernel but backing up to 2.4.27 using
    wlan-ng I now get :

     Aug 8 04:02:38 light cardmgr[1189]: socket 1: D-Link DWL-650 11Mbps
    802.11b WLAN Card
    Aug 8 04:02:39 light kernel: prism2cs_init: prism2_cs.o: 0.2.1-pre21 Loaded
    Aug 8 04:02:39 light kernel: prism2cs_init: dev_info is: prism2_cs
Aug 8 04:02:39 light kernel: prism2_cs: GetNextTuple: No more items
    Aug 8 04:02:39 light kernel: prism2sta_config: NextTuple failure? It's
    probably a Vcc mismatch.
    Aug 8 04:02:39 light kernel: prism2sta_event: prism2_cs: Initialization
    failed!
Aug 8 04:02:40 light cardmgr[1189]: get dev info on socket 1 failed:
    Resource temporarily unavailable

I'm not near an access point but is there one more problem before seeing
    the network?

The battery in this laptop doesn't hold a charge but it runs from the
    adapter. cardctl info gives:

    function 0: [ready], [bat low]

Could that be the Vcc mismatch mentioned above?

    TIA,

    Paul
