I found the problem: in /etc/environment there was
LANG=it_IT.UTF-8@euro
I changed it in:
LANG=it_IT.utf-8@euro
Et voilą !
It seems quite probably that gnome isn't case sensitive in reading locale, on
contrary of KDE.
