    Hi there,

    I have been looking around to solve this, but no one else seems to have had
    any similar roblems.
    The thing is that I have an external hard drive and it takes forever to copy
    files from/to it. Since it is USB2 there is something awfully wrong.
    I tested it on macosx and windoze and it works WAY much faster than on linux
    (though I don't know exactly how much faster).
    I am not mounting it using 'sync', which reportedly causes some troubles.

    Here are some other things that might be of help:
    * dmesg saying I connected the device;
    usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 19
    ub(1.19): GetMaxLUN returned 0, using 1 LUNs
    uba: uba1
    (notice the high speed);
    * the entry on /proc/bus/usb/devices
    T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 19 Spd=480 MxCh= 0
    D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1
    P: Vendor=0402 ProdID=5637 Rev= 1.06
    S: Product=USB 2.0 Storage Device
    S: SerialNumber=00000000000123456789
    C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=c0 MxPwr= 0mA
    I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=08(stor.) Sub=06 Prot=50 Driver=ub

    E: Ad=02(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 512 Ivl=125us
    (notice the 480 speed indication)
    * output of mount
    /dev/uba1 on /photobox type vfat (rw)
    * lspci

    (I really do have USB2!)

    Since I copy the files to an 300Gb SATA HD I don't think that the problem
    could reside there.
    I am absolutely clueless here. Any help is appreciated. I also did not find
    a way to correctly test the device's speed, but I can tell that a 698MB file
    took me 13 minutes to transfer from the thing to my HD!!!

    Oh, please Cc any replies to my email, since I don't currently subscribe to
    the list!

    Thanks a lot for any help.
    Roberto.
