Sure you can. In the latest Filesystem Hierarchy Standard it states
that /media should be used for removable media, for example CD/DVD and
USB keys, and /mnt should be used for mounting a filesystem temporarily,
ie mounting an NFS share to copy files, or mounting an old hard drive to
copy stuff from it.
