This is not clear to me. I've had arguments with the service
personnel at my ISP (the help line now goes to India). I've
told them at times that their mail server is down, and had
them argue back that they just checked, and all mail servers
are up. Then they want to run diagnostics checks on my DSL
modem. When I tell them I can browse with no problem, but
that I'm getting POP errors reported, they start asking
what version of Windows I'm running, and how I know that
I'm getting POP failures. On one occasion, when I told the
fellow I wasn't running Windows, then he asked what version
of MacOS I run. I told him that I don't run MacOS, and he
said "Oh, then you're probably running XP." After arguing
with him about MY OWN MACHINE, for a while, I told him
"I run Linux." That was the end of the conversation for
him. The servers are up, the problem is that I'm running
    Linux. Goodbye. Click!

On another occasion when I reported POP failures, and
the fellow checked, he said "No, all the e-mail servers
are up. I just checked. Four people from your area
have called to complain, and so I'm sure the server
is up, because I've already looked three times!"

    !?

So, I don't call any more. I just wait an hour or so,
and usually somebody with brains has noticed the
    problem and rebooted the server.
