    I'll remember that for the next time, just in case there is a "next
    time". I'm still not sure what caused the problem but as I wanted to
    update from 2.6.12 to 2.6.14 anyway, I did that and after the reboot
    everything works as expected again.

    Yes, I noticed those as well.
