I was working at compiling xv-3.10a-28 with its 37 patches when I stumbled across a Suse source rpm "xv-3.10a-1079.src.rpm" at "http://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/".
Create an empty directory and put "xv-3.10a-1079.src.rpm" in it. Then
rpm2cpio xv-3.10a-1079.src.rpm | cpio --extract
Unpack the "bz2" files. The installation instructions are in "xv-3.10a-jumbo-README.txt".
"libxt-dev" should be installed. "libtiff", "libjpeg", "libpng" and "zlib" and their "dev" packages are also needed. If this list is incomplete, the compiler will complain.
There are compiler warnings for "xvpcd.c". If they say something like
pointer targets in passing argument 1 of ‘...' differ in signedness
They can be ignored.
