KDE 3.4 should automatically use pmount if it is installed properly and your user is a member of the "plugdev" group.
If you have already tried the procedure which I referenced above, then you should say so clearly and provide us with more information about what went wrong. Otherwise it is really difficult to understand what exactly your problem is. (e.g. "no icon appears on the desktop at all" versus "nothing happens when you click on the icon")
