aptitude: Dynamic MMap ran out of room

Hello Debian-users,

When I run aptitude, I get the following error:

root@aglarond:/home/arjen# aptitude update
Reading package lists... Error!
E: Dynamic MMap ran out of room
E: Error occurred while processing gq (NewFileVer1)
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/dpkg/status
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

root@aglarond:/home/arjen#

uname -a:
Linux aglarond 2.6.8-2-386 #1 Tue Aug 16 12:46:35 UTC 2005 i686 GNU/Linux

I suspect that aptitude's database has become corrupt. Does anybody have
a clue how to solve this? I'll send more info if needed.

TIA,
Arjen
