Please,
I need to draw some simple maps. My initial idea is to use xfig.
Canals/rivers are no problem, I can use thick lines.
1. how can I indicate roads using parallel curved lines ?
I don't think you can draw _exactly_ parallel lines unless your curve consists
of straight lines and arcs. But you should try the following methods:
Copy the line, click 'scale' and use the middle mouse button (scale about
center).
Or copy the line, click 'move points' and adjust the points of the second line
so that it becomes parallel to the first one.
2. how can I create re-useable objects like bridges and canal locks ?
Save them in separate files and use 'file->merge' to merge them into your
drawing. See also 'Making your own libraries of fig objects' in the xfig
reference.

Any other suggestions ?
Thanks
Joe.
