Well, I haved DEVICE partitions in there. Should not that do a scan?
It should, if /proc is mounted, and if your partitions appear
there, and if the partitions listed there match /dev.
You earlier wrote "/dev/.static/dev/md0" which led me to
believe you were running udev and probably a 2.6 kernel.
Perhaps some more information would help. The Debian version
you are running and any relevant changes. "fdisk -l".
