CRC error when mounting ramdisk while booting 2.6.15

Hello *,
yesterday I upgraded some packages from the admin section (among them udev, powertweak stuff, init stuff) and today my machine greeted me as follows:
RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0
crc error
VFS: cannot open root device "301" or unknown-block(3, 1)
Please append a correct "root=" load option
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(3, 1)
The boot partition (/dev/hda1) is ok, 2.6.10, 2.6.11 and 2.6.12 are booting, so I guess the error messages refer to the ramdisk image. I remember that I had to install a ramdisk creator before installing 2.6.15 some weeks ago - so this ramdisk stuff seems to be new.
What can I do to get 2.6.15 booting again? It is the first kernel of the 2.6 series that works nearly as reliable as those from the 2.4 series except for some flaws like apm not working properly any more.
Thank you,
Michael
