What is the output of "fc-match 'Times New Roman'"?

arcadia:~:$ fc-match 'Times New Roman'
TimesNewRoman-Regular.ttf: "Times New Roman" "Regular"

On the basis of this, the font should be available to firefox.

It is, but it doesn't show up with xfontsel, which it used to do I'm
sure.

I think we've been talking at cross purposes. My impression was that
the fonts were *not* available to firefox. Just ignore me.

While I was installing the fonts originally there was a message about
not using defoma; I don't know exactly what it meant but it may expain
why the fonts were not where I expected them to be.
