Again, the problem is that the lack of a profit motive hampers efficiency.

And that of course is why corporations are even worse than
government. Neither the executives nor the employees have
any profit motive, and the shareholders have less control
than voters have of politicians.

Best by far: Individuals. Also sole proprietors and partners.
Distant 2nd: Government. Sometimes needed for large projects.
Always evil: Corporations. Amoral tools of immoral execs.

And this has what to do with Debian?

Simple.

Best by far: Debian, Knoppix, Slackware, ASTLinux
Distant 2nd: Red Flag, TurboLinux, ScientificLinux
Always evil: SUSE, Novell, JDS, Red Hat, Mandriva, Ubuntu

Clearly, because Debian is developed by individual volunteers (SPI is
just an umbrella organization there for legal purposes), it is one of
the best. Likewise, Knoppix, Slackware and ASTLinux are all developed
primarily by individuals (i.e., one person each). They fall into the
same category.

Of course, anything gov't sponsored is not as good as that which is
produced by individuals. Thus, the three listed on the second line
above are acceptable, though not superior.

The last line speaks for itself.

Are we headed back on topic now?
