anything that the console does just as well?

Because I like shiny. Shiny == good. Anyway, I have the RAM to
spare, so... SHINY!!!

If it makes you feel better, the main reason I use a window
manager is so that I can have lots of consoles open at the same
time (what else would you use this GUI thing for?) ;-)
