cannot mount /dev/sdb1

but when I try mount /dev/sdb1 /other debian responds:

mount: you must specify the filesystem type

I have tried -t with all sorts of types, but none work. I have
reformatted the disk, no joy :-(

the same error is reported for /dev/sda2
