Try "scrot", it???s extremely small but still provides a lot of functionality.

I use imagemagick for this:
import -frame ~/Images/Screenshots/image_of_the_window_or_frame.jpg

Then I see this image with:
display ~/Images/Screenshots/image_of_the_window_or_frame.jpg
