This is no good. My guess is that you have a dying hard drive. Make backups
and purchase a new hard drive.
There are tools like that can check the consistency of hard drive
(smartctl), badblocks checking programs (badblocks), performance analyzers
(hdparm) that might help you out. But first, make backups.
