I know this is not a real solution, but do you have any
particular reason for using that client? Gaim can do ICQ as
far as I recall.

No reason except that I can't connect to the QQ server using
gaim. I get 'invalid password' and other such junk from it.
So I tried using their QQ tool, since this is what they
officially support. the installer worked, as well as the
registration of QQ account info. but i can't get the actual
agent to run.

thanks,

tom

You need the "OpenQ [QQ] plugin" for Gaim, I'm not sure if a
deb package iv available or not but you can get the source from
http://sourceforge.net/projects/openq/

Peter

no deb' avail', so i tried compiling from souve gotten from
sourceforge. i get:

checking for gaim... Package gaim was not found in the pkg-config
search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing
`gaim.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package
'gaim' found configure: error: Library requirements (gaim) not
met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can
find them.

in path variable i have:

kloro@debian:~/zips/openq/openq-0.3.2$ echo $PKG_CONFIG_PATH
/home/kloro/zips/pidgin/pidgin-2.2.0/
kloro@debian:~/zips/openq/openq-0.3.2$

couldn't find any gaim.pc on my sys',
only /home/kloro/zips/pidgin/pidgin-2.2.0/gaim.pc.in

thanks,

tom

Do you have the appropriate dev packages installed (e.g. gaim-dev)?

Peter

didn't, but i installed gaim-dev and was able to configure. now i
have a problem with 'make'. did you see my last email "trying to
create openq plugin for gaim from source but can't do 'make'"? it has
the error messages.

thanks,

tom

The line

qq.h:71: error: field 'dest_sin' has incomplete type

is your problem.

See http://www.binrev.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php?t24872.html for
more info, it is not a lot of help but it might point you in the right
direction.

Peter

like the site example, i'm missing 'internal.h'. the suggested fix is to
install gaim-dev, but it's installed on my system.

tom

One quick thought, I notice there is a RPM package of the QQ plugin
for Gaim, have thought about using 'alien' to install the RPM?
http://packages.debian.org/etch/alien

to use 'alien' cd the directory you downloaded the RPM and issue a
command along the lines of

alien -i *.rpm

as ever it is probably worth reading the man page for the full range
of options before use.

Peter

Peter,

when i try to do the alien route, i get

debian:/home/kloro/zips/openqRH# alien -i *rpm
mkdir: cannot create directory `gaim-openq-0.3.2/usr': File exists
mv: cannot move `gaim-openq-0.3.2/usr' to a subdirectory of itself,
`gaim-openq-0.3.2//usr/local/usr'

dpkg: error processing gaim-openq_0.3.2-2.2_i386.deb (--install):
trying to overwrite `/usr/lib/gaim/libqq.so', which is also in package gaim
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:
gaim-openq_0.3.2-2.2_i386.deb
debian:/home/kloro/zips/openqRH#
