etch installer fails to recognize existing lvm

Some time ago I installed etch's amd64 on my workstation (mostly lvm on
raid1).

Now I would like to install i386 as well as a dual boot. Unfortunately,
the installer seems to miss my lvm.

Manual partitioning offers as 'exsiting' space only the partitions, ie.
the space used for /boot or the raid. However, I don't want to create a
new lvm, but rather use some 20G of the existing free space within the
existing one.

Any hints?

My fdisk -l (as created by the previous install) looks a bit funny, but
has been working flawlessly so far.

Thanks,

Johannes
