Hi everyone,
I have my keyboard setup as us and in the console every key works
correctly. In vi though everything is messed up! The standard
shortcuts don't work. While following a tutorial, after an apt-get of
a series of apps I noticed it start working like it should?

Is there something specific to Debian I am unaware of?

Could be. But your question lacks important details such as what exactly you meant by "everything is messed up", "standard shortcuts". Please be specific.

While you are at it, consider using vim instead of vi unless you have a good reason not to do so.

Well, therein lies my lack of experience! I didn't even know there was a difference, vim is what I "meant" to use but didn't know I wasn't, hence the apt-get install vim made it all good! :)

Thanks!
