Something strange popped up with ClamAV today...

Was just wondering if anyone else had seen something like this....

I'm running etch stable, with the sole exception being the postfix
backport.

Sometime in the past three days, my mail server stopped working. I
noticed it when I went to find the confirmation email for a forum I was
joining and it didn't show up right away. Like any good sysadmin, I
immediately login to the mail server to grep the logs to see if the
connection ever came through.

What I find instead is my server freaking out and amavis complaining
very strongly that it cannot speak to clamav
via /var/run/clamav/clamd.ctl

Ok, so first thing I suspect is that my permissions somehow got messed
up. After spending a couple of hours on that, I discover my permissions
are fine. I notice that the clamd.ctl isn't actually in
the /var/run/clamav directory (neither is the clamd.pid file). So I
check all my config files, they all say the same thing, and it's the
right directory. Ok, so I take the drastic measure of just purging out
clamav and it's related packages and reinstalling them. Same dice,
the .ctl file and the .pid file, will *not* create, despite the fact
that clamd is running.

I finally gave up trying to figure out wtf was wrong and just installed
the backport for clamav, and then it all starts working properly again.
Right now, postfix is chewing through what looks to be about three days
worth of mail to make everything kosher again.

Just wondering if anyone's seen anything like this, and if there was a
solution beyond the simple brute force method of upgrading.
