Problem was solved when I change in BIOS settings -> IDE DMA TRANSFER

if that setting is in "DISABLED" position, I get allways "savedefault"
message and debian etch (Ubuntu) never load and work at all..

fixed. savedefault causes grub to try to write to the disk on bootup;
under some circumstances (a reiser file system was mentioned) it can't,
and it gets hung up. I think the "savedefault" option is no longer part
of the default configuration for GRUB on Debian. You can disable it
yourself, and if you get hung up while starting the system you can edit
this option out for that particular startup.
You don't provide details of the error you ran into (the exact events
leading up to it and the text of the error message), and your solution
sounds as if it's a different issue. I mention it just in case there's
some overlap.
