konsole doesn't allow wall?

Under KDE, it looks like:

mesg y
echo test | sudo wall

has no effect inside konsole. The KDE Write Daemon shows as running in
the KDE service manager, but not in the process list.

I'm running kde 5:48 from unstable, if it matters.
