I'm too new to know what is the standard or default tool to configure
what services are started at boot.

I've installed chkconfig from ancient expierence on various linux
distros but suspect their is something more popular or maybe something
installed with default install.

I think sysv-rc-conf is what you are looking for.

rcconf is a nice tool you can run it from a terminal and it will let you select or deselect what daemons you want to start when you boot up with works really nice
