Re: Online video won't be downloaded

What has generally worked for me is to watch (or at least buffer) the
streaming video in Firefox/Iceweasel, and find the appropriate cache
entry (~/.mozilla/firefox/<garbage>/Cache). "ls -ltr" typically makes
it easy to pick out, since it will be recent and large. Then I just
copy the file from the cache to a more stable location, changing the
file name from <random-looking hex> to my_video.flv. If the file's
too big, it'll get booted from the cache, but sometimes it shows up in
/tmp (this seems unreliable). Increasing the iceweasel cache limit
generally makes this a non-issue, though.

I tried to apply Michael's suggestion (that another time worked fine) to
download a video at this address:

http://www.raiclicktv.it/raiclickpc/secure/folder.srv?id=1925#

, by clicking on `Roma'. More precisely, the address is:

http://www.raiclicktv.it/raiclickpc/secure/stream.srv?id=3429&idCnt=17923&pagina=1&path=RaiClickWeb^Home^Sapere^Letture+^CAMMIN+LEGGENDO#1

. The strange is, that no large file seems to be downloaded in
~/.mozilla/firefox/duq4lps5.default/Cache. But, where else if not there? So
I didn't manage to download the file.

I also tried with clive, but it said:

clive 0.4.18 20080715 [Linux]
error: unsupported host
(http://www.raiclicktv.it/raiclickpc/secure/stream.srv?id=3429&idCnt=17923&pagina=1&path=RaiClickWeb^Home^Sapere^Letture+^CAMMIN+LEGGENDO#1)
=> 0 (0.0B), failed: 1, skipped: 0.
error: nothing to extract.

. Any suggestion? At that web site there are some real treasures that
deserve absolutely to be collected!

Try the FlashGot plugin for FF. It's apparently morphed from being
specifically a Flash downloader to a general downloader.

I didn't manage to download the video with FlashGot either.

Since I can watch it, through Firefox and also with Totem, and since any
buffered video is going to have to be downloaded and cached somewhere, I wonder
*where* if not in ~/.mozilla/firefox/duq4lps5.default/Cache.

Once found out this, I could pick it up without need of plugins.

Bye
Rodolfo
